Well, here goes…the history of Mrs. Hohnholt

I grew up in the communities of Hamlet and Wauneta, Nebraska, and attended McCook Community College. I loved the “Home Economics” classes that I took as electives, and decided to pursue a degree in Vocational Home Economics. Following graduation from MCC, I transferred to Kearney State College. I graduated in 1978, and spent the next year and a half working as an Independent Living instructor for special needs adults in Kearney. This was an experience that I treasured, but it wasn’t what I went to college for. I wanted to teach in public school, so I began looking for teaching jobs. Because it was late June, there were very few jobs available, in fact, there was only one west of Kearney, and that was Maxwell. I remember driving into the town for the very first time, and realized just how small the little village was. The superintendent couldn’t wait to show me the plans for the new school they would be starting to build the following September. I really felt that he wanted me to accept the job, especially since it was so late in the year. The position came with the junior high girls basketball coaching duty. This was a brand new sport in the school at that time, and I almost turned down the offer because I really knew nothing about girls basketball. My husband said he would help me coach, so I agreed to take the job, and here I am 37 years later (minus the coaching). I am married to my husband Jon, and have two daughters who both attended Maxwell school from kindergarten through 12th grade. I am a grandmother of two little boys, and a pet mom to two dogs and a cat. I have watched two major building transitions to our facility in my time here, and look forward to seeing all of the new changes that will be happening with the next phase of our great school.   Go Cats!!
