Hunger Awareness Week

Be a Superhero Plan

September 24-28

 

 

As a kickoff for our school backpack program, we would like to bring attention to the subject of hunger, and the importance of healthy eating. The Food Science Class has developed a plan for the last full week of September. We will offer incentives and prizes to those who participate and excel.

 

Monday—Johnny Appleseed Day—Collect applesauce and apple juice. Free apples to the class collecting the most apple products on that day!

 

Tuesday—Better Breakfast Awareness Day—K-6 Coloring Contest—Winner from each class will receive a gift certificate to the FCCLA snack bar..

 

Tuesday—What does hunger mean to me?  7-8 Essay Contest and 9-12 Poetry Contest—Winners of each division will receive a  $20 punch card to the FCCLA snack bar. Turn poetry and essays in to Mrs. Hohnholt by the end of the day on Tuesday.

 

Wednesday—Family Day—“Eat with the Family” and take a photo! Post on the school Twitter page by noon on Thursday.--prizes for the best photos include: gift certificates to local restaurants.  Winners will be announced on Friday.

 

Friday—Wear orange for hunger—stuff the totes with food for our school backpack program—Orange Popsicle treats for everyone on Friday! Totes will be located outside of the FCS room.

 

Donations will be accepted beginning next week, and throughout the year.

            Small cans of vegetables and meats

            Small Individual cereal boxes

Snack Pack pudding and Jell-o

Applesauce

Apple juice boxes

Small individual fruit cups

Granola bars

Fruit snacks

Small cans of vegetables  

Fruit cups

Small-assorted crackers

Small cereal boxes

Any healthy non-perishable item that would be manageable by a student
